Having children is the dream of most women. However, having children when you want is even better. Nature does not always surrender what you want and when it comes to conceiving, many women can testify that it can be a difficult long wait. According to statistics, many modern and rural women due to various factors have declined regarding fertility. Many have to go the extra mile to make sure that they conceive at all. If you are one of these women, it is wise to know some of the top tips that will help you recapture your fertility. The following are tips by Ann Douglas the author of The Mother of All Pregnancy Books. As a columnist for Conceive Magazine, she will help you access a wealth of knowledge that will help you succeed in your endeavour.

Before you try to get pregnant, you need to make sure that you are taking in folic acid. You want to make sure that you plan for a child that is as healthy as possible. Folic acid will dramatically reduce the chances of defects like spina bifida. Taking at least 0.4 grams of folic acid daily 3 or 2 months before you try to conceive will reduce the chances of such complications up to 70%.

The other important tip when you are trying to get pregnant is to make sex fun rather than an obligation. This will ensure that you look forward to it. This way, you will increase the frequency and this will play a role in making a conception fast. To do this, couples are advised to break the routine and look for different environments which will provide greater stimulation with this regard.

When you want to get pregnant, you need to consider if you are taking different kinds of drugs especially over-the-counter medications. Ask your doctor for advice and see whether they are making your work of conceiving harder. There are certain drugs that will promote infertility and you need to check with your doctor.

According to some fertility experts, after making love, a woman should lie without motion for at least five minutes. This is because running up and down might sabotage the meeting of the sperm and egg.

Another vital tip to get pregnant is to have sex during your fertile period. This time is usually some five days that will lead to ovulation. It is important for couples to maximize this time because it is the crucial time to conceive.

Another tip to keep in mind if you are a fan of coffee is that caffeine has been found to increase infertility problems. This is if the coffee is taken in excess which is usually considered to be more than 3 cups of drip coffee a day. To be on the safer side, put aside coffee and it is definitely a worthy sacrifice.

It is also wise to have your preconception check up that will review your health and provide an opportunity for advice and tips from your health care provider. To get pregnant, you need to be committed in this way to get the results that you want.

There are so many other pointers that you can employ that will help you conceive. For more information, you can visit Having a Baby which is a site that will shed more light into this matter. Here, you will find invaluable resources that will propel you to the right direction.

Having a baby is one of the most important times in your life. So, it’s important to ensure that you and your partner are in optimum health. Making a few lifestyle and nutritional changes now will not only help boost your chances of conceiving but may also help to give your unborn baby a good start in life.

And remember it’s not only a woman’s responsibility – men need to do their fair share too! So, here to help you on your way is the Sanatogen His & Hers 8-point fertility checklist with fertility expert Dr Chris Steele.

1. A good diet

Both mums and dads-to-be should make sure they’re eating a healthy well-balanced diet. A poor diet is known to affect both the quality and quantity of a man’s sperm – men should ensure they are eating plenty of foods rich in vitamin C, found in oranges, and zinc found in baked beans, lean mince meat, diary produce e.g. milk, cereals, breads etc. Both men and women’s diets should include plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, protein-rich food such as fish, poultry or pulses, and whole grains. Now is the time for both of you to quit the junk food! Once you’re pregnant, avoid certain fish such as marlin, shark and swordfish, as well as liver and alcohol.

2. Take a supplement

It’s not always easy to get all the right vitamins and minerals through diet alone whilst trying to conceive, so why not try a ProNatal supplement. Knowing which supplement and multivitamin to take before, during and after pregnancy can be confusing. Try taking an all in one combined supplement tailor made for men and women such as Sanatogen ProNatal His & Hers.

3. Timing & Lying

The day you ovulate and those days immediately before and after are the best times to conceive, as your eggs can only survive 12-24 hrs after release, whereas sperm can survive for 3-5 days inside the cervix, womb and fallopian tubes. Your most fertile day is 14 days before the first day of your next period. Many women think it is 14 days since their last period and count forward but this is wrong – you need to count back. If you have a regular cycle this is easy to calculate but if your cycle is irregular it becomes very difficult. And, ideally you should be having intercourse two days before this day, on the day, and 2 days after.

After intercourse do not get up and go to the loo. Lie in bed as long as possible as this gives sperm a chance to find the cervix, work their way up through the interior of the womb, and spread into both fallopian tubes.

4. High anxiety and stress

High anxiety and stress levels are known to affect both fertility and pregnancy. So if you’re working hard, staying up late or constantly trying to meet high-pressured deadlines, make positive changes to reduce some of the stresses in your life. Why not think about taking a yoga class, use a relaxation CD or go for a long walk.

5. Smoking & alcohol

Excessive alcohol intake and smoking are bad news for a healthy sperm production. So both you and your partner should quit smoking and say goodbye to those party nights.

6. Exercise

Take regular gentle exercise – aim for three 30-minute sessions each week. Why not try walking, swimming or cycling.

7. Drugs and medication

If you or your partner need to take any medication make sure you tell you’re GP that you’re trying for a baby.

8. Discussing the issues

And last but not least, before you both start actively trying, it might help to discuss some of the potential issues that could arise from having a baby. These might include; how will a child change your lifestyle, what are your attitudes to raising a child, will either of you give up work and how will you cope financially?

While it may appear that everyone else around you is getting pregnant, it can take some time to conceive. Are you one of these people for whom it is taking time? Have you been trying to get pregnant and worried about your fertility?

Ask yourself the question “What do I eat”? This may sound a bit wacky but if you have been trying to get pregnant and it is just not happening, I guess you are willing to listen to what I have to say. It may just be the key to unlocking your problem.

The old adage “you are what you eat” rings true. Everything you eat has an effect on your body from your blood cells to your hormones. Therefore it is vitally important to prepare yourself as best you can, in readiness to conceive.

It has been quoted that it can take between 3 months to a year for your dietary changes to prepare your body for pregnancy. Obviously however, if you have a healthy diet now, this time frame will be shortened. Continue to read on for 10 top tips on how to make changes to your diet to improve your fertility.

1. The first and foremost universal piece of advice is to give up smoking. Smoking reduces fertility in both men and women and lengthens the time it takes to conceive. Women who smoke are twice as likely to be infertile as women who don’t. So give up now.

2. Give up or reduce your alcohol intake. The evidence for alcohol and fertility is still rather inconclusive but small studies have shown women that drink less than 5 alcoholic drinks a week are twice as likely to conceive as those who drink 10 or more.

3. Research around Caffeine is mixed but if you are experiencing difficulties conceiving then cut out caffeine in all its forms – coffee, strong tea and chocolate. It’s been linked to low fertility in some studies.

4. Increase your portions of fruit and vegetables from the daily recommended 5, to 8 portions of organic fruit and vegetables daily. Going organic ensures they contain low levels of pesticides and have higher nutritional content than non-organic.

5. Increase your fluid intake. Research has shown that most of us do not drink enough fluid each day and that we are all slightly dehydrated. Drinking up to eight glasses of filtered water or herbal/fruit teas will help flush out excess toxins.

6. Eating small portions and at regular intervals (approx 2 ’3 hourly) will help to sustain your blood sugar levels. This will help to prevent excessive drops in blood sugar which can release too much adrenalin. As a result this may block progesterone, which maintains pregnancy.

7. Increase the Zinc in your diet. It is essential for fertility. It ensures the production of good-quality sperm and can reduce the chance of miscarriage. Cashew nuts, pumpkin seeds and crab meat are all good sources of Zinc. Good quality supplements can be found in most good chemists. Remember to ask the pharmacist for advice on your individual situation.

8. Vitamin B intake is also important. B6 helps to balance hormones and can be found in sunflower seeds, lentils, bananas, chicken, white fish and tinned salmon. While B12 is required for cellular reproduction. It can also increase sperm count. Sardines, lamb, chicken, Marmite and Cheddar cheese are all good sources. Often it is hard to get the levels required by diet alone and again supplementation may be needed. Discuss your requirements with your pharmacist.

9. Try to change all animal produce to organic. Non-organic dairy and meet contain antibiotics and growth hormones.

10. Keep your system clean. Eat more fibre, which is essential for fertility as it keeps the bowels regular. Do this by eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and plenty of wholegrain. If you have any existing health issues please consult your doctor before making drastic changes to your diet.

Many couples around the world often face difficulties when conceiving a baby and pinpointing an exact reason can be difficult. Health clinics are often visited on a regular basis to help increase fertility but fortunately, there are simple changes you can make that can be extremely effective. Here are 3 tips to get you started to conceive a baby girl naturally.

1. Changes to lifestyle and diet are a must

Perhaps one of the most effective methods to get pregnant is by making changes to your diet to consume only whole foods while staying from anything processed. Foods such as fruits, vegetables and dairy are essential to provide your body with the daily nutrition it needs. Herbal remedies that include organic botanicals are also effective as they help to balance hormone levels and improve egg quality.

2. Stay away from anything that can hurt your body

Studies have shown that women who smoke, drink or do drugs reduce their fertility by a significant amount compared to women who don’t. So even if you do any of these, it is important to stop right away as these can go a long way to helping you conceive a baby. In addition, smoking has also been shown to reduce sperm count for males which also reduces fertility.

3. Keep your weight in check

Women who are overweight or underweight have also been proven by numerous studies to have a negative impact on fertility levels. The ideal body mass index (BMI) for women should fall between 20-30 as this also makes conceiving much easier. Be sure to exercise on a regular basis and to also cook healthy meals.

For maximum benefit, these methods should be used in combination with each other rather than relying on a single method. Be sure to keep these factors in mind whether you are trying to conceive a baby girl or a baby boy.

For some couples getting pregnant happens without any effort at all. For others, it can involve more time – and more effort – sometimes taking up to a year or even a little more to conceive naturally.

But what many couples don’t realize is that while they think they are doing everything “right” to maximize their chances for conception, it’s oftentimes some small and seemingly unimportant factors that can make a big difference in how quickly and easily conception occurs.

To help get you thinking in the right direction, here are 5 proven Fertility Boosters – ways that studies have shown can maximize your conception odds and help you get pregnant faster and easier!

Fertility Booster No. 1: Load Up On Fertility Foods!

While eating a healthy, balanced diet with lots of fiber, fruits and vegetables is always a good way to insure your body is working at peak performance, a recent study of some 17,000 women conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, identified some specific “fertility food rules ” that improved conception odds. What are they?

• Eat more monounsaturated fats (like olive oil) and less Trans fats (like the kind found in many baked goods or fast foods).

• Eat more vegetable protein (like soy), while reducing animal protein (like red meat).

• Eat more high fiber, low-glycemic foods — like whole grains, vegetables, and some fruits, while reducing the intake of refined carbohydrates and sugars.

• Keep consumption of high-fat dairy products — like ice cream, whole milk, and cheese to a minimum.

Fertility Booster No. 2: Try Weight Control

Being overweight or underweight can disrupt ovulation – the release of fertile eggs- and play a major role in keeping you from getting pregnant.

Reporting in the journal Human Reproduction, researchers documented a 4% decrease in conception odds for every point in Body Mass Index above 30. For women whose BMI was higher than 35, there was up to a 43% overall decrease in the ability to conceive.

At the same time, other studies have shown that being too thin can also impact ovulatory function and keep you from getting pregnant. This is particularly true if your menstrual cycle is already irregular – a sign that your weight may already be interfering with your ability to get pregnant.

The good news: You don’t have to lose – or gain – a lot to see positive fertility results. In many instances as little as 10 pounds can make a huge difference in encouraging conception!

Fertility Booster No. 3: Hold Hands With Your Spouse!

As silly as that may sound, the key here is stress reduction – and a recent study published in the journal Psychological Science found the simple act of holding hands with your spouse can drop stress levels dramatically.

So can renting a stack of romantic comedy videos – or taking time out to read a book, take a bath, do some yoga, start an herb garden, or anything you know helps reduce your stress levels.

While doctors aren’t sure exactly how or why stress reduction works, in one encouraging study conducted by Alice Domar, PhD, at Harvard’s Mind-Body Institute, women who underwent stress reduction therapy saw dramatic increases in their ability to get pregnant. In fact, even women who were already undergoing fertility treatments had more successful outcomes when stress was kept under control.

Fertility Booster No. 4: Workout – But Not Too Much!

While most women know that exercise is generally good for your health. But what you may not realize is that too much exercise can actually disrupt your fertility and make it harder to get pregnant. Traditionally, long distance runners or sometimes even professional dancers can often suffer from irregular menstrual cycles – and difficulty getting pregnant. If you are a workout over-achiever, cut down to no more than 45 minutes three times a week while you are trying to get pregnant.

If you’re not exercising at all, adding in at least 20 minutes three times a week can help keep cycles normal and encourage healthy, regular ovulation – which is one of the best ways to enhance. your fertility.

Fertility Booster No. 5: Get Together At the Right Time!

While being intimate during the “right time of the month” won’t do anything to increase your fertility, it can increase your chances of getting pregnant — simply by ensuring you and your partner connect during the time conception is the most possible.

When is the best time to optimize a pregnancy? Although an egg lives for only 24 to 36 hours, sperm can live in a woman’s body for up to 5 days! So, to increase your chances of getting pregnant be sure to be intimate with your partner beginning 3 to 4 days prior to when you expect to ovulate, and up to 24 hours after ovulation.

How to tell when you’re ovulating? For most women it’s 10 to 14 days after their last menstrual cycle. To be certain, use an ovulation predictor kit for one or two cycles and use that to calculate your most fertile time.

You can also use your basal body temperature as a guide. Take your temperature daily and when it drops about a half a degree it means your egg is ready to be released – so start having intimate relations and continue until your temperature goes up again, meaning ovulation has passed.

The choice to bear children is an emotional one but there are many couples who often have difficulties getting pregnant. This can be an absolutely devastating situation to deal with especially if the couple has tried for many months without any sign of conceiving. Here are 3 effective tips on getting pregnant that will also help to increase fertility.

1. Changes to lifestyle and diet will need to be made

If you are serious about getting pregnant with your partner, then you will need to make the decision to see this through without giving up. Having a healthy diet that consists of fruits and vegetables is essential as it provides your body with the nutrition it needs. In addition, stressful situations should be avoided as studies have shown this to be a contributing factor for infertility in women.

2. Exercise on a regular basis

Exercising is not only beneficial for your body in terms of preventing degenerative diseases later on, but it also helps to keep your weight in check. Reports have shown that overweight and underweight women are at a significant disadvantage for getting pregnant compared to those who are not. When exercising, it’s important to do so in moderation as too much can cause your period to be skipped.

3. Avoid smoking, drinking or doing any type of drugs

These things should absolutely be avoided at all costs as they not only have a negative impact on your health, but they can also reduce fertility levels. While it may be difficult to give up, it is crucial if you are serious about conceiving a baby girl or baby boy. Prior to taking any medications, be sure to consult a doctor first to see if it will have any negative effects on your body.

Many of these methods are simple to follow but they do require patience and persistence in order to get pregnant. Fortunately, a recent study has shown that nearly 85% of women eventually go on to conceive children after one year of trying.

Many couples often struggle to conceive which can be a devastating blow especially if many months have passed with no luck. Fortunately, you can significantly increase your chances by making a few changes in your daily routine. The following are effective tips on getting pregnant with a baby without having to go to health clinics.

Before making the decision to raise a family, you should talk with your spouse to ensure that both of you are ready. To help increase fertility levels, you will need to make lifestyle and dietary changes by exercising on a regular basis and eating fruits and vegetables. Studies have shown that stressful situations can reduce fertility levels for both men and women so these circumstances should be avoided.

To increase fertility levels you must absolutely do away with things that are harmful to your body such as smoking, drinking or doing drugs. Of course, if you don’t do any of these then you have a significantly better chance of conceiving versus those who do. While some of these things may be difficult to give up, it is absolutely essential that you do if you are serious about getting pregnant.

Timing is also important if you want to conceive a baby as you want to time intercourse on the days you are most fertile. This can be done by tracking and monitoring your ovulation cycle by using prediction kits. If you want to have a girl then you need to time intercourse several days prior to ovulation and if you want a boy, then making love on the day of is a must.

Getting pregnant isn’t always an easy task and in fact, there are very few couples conceive on the first try. There are a number of factors involved here that could have an impact on fertility levels such as age. Fortunately, a majority of couples do end up conceiving after a year of trying but if you are still struggling then it is recommended to consult a doctor.

For women trying to conceive, diet and nutrition can be highly important. But even the greatest pregnancy medical advice will have trouble pinpointing the best days to become pregnant. Before you consider any infertility option, you should first make sure you learn the in’s and out’s of your ovulation cycle. The getting pregnant tricks and tips below will show you how.

Each month, you only have so many fertile days to become pregnant. Sometimes the fertilization window can be open for mere hours, which is why it’s so important to really keep track of your periods in order to lock down a definitive cycle for yourself. This should be done months in advance, in order to get a good amount of data on your body and how it reacts each month. Different times of year, weather, and stress levels can all affect your menstrual cycle to some degree… to help become pregnant, you need to know as much as you can.

Trying to conceive stories are everywhere, and while some of them are disheartening there are a good many that are enlightening too. If you’ve been unsuccessful in getting pregnant, try to stay upbeat about it no matter what you do. Your body will react poorly toward depression and negativity, and the best pregnancy medical advice won’t help you if your mindset is counterproductive to what you’re trying to accomplish. Stay positive, strong, fit and healthy. Keep an open mind, and speak to your doctor about prenatal vitamins that have traditionally aided women who needed help becoming pregnant. Most of all, remember that you are not alone. There are all kinds of forums and message boards where you can gain advice, hope, and support from other people going through the same things you are. The best days to become pregnant are the days you’re happy, relaxed, and receptive to the idea of conceiving a baby. And that’s better than any other infertility option you can come up with.

The golden question: when are you most likely to get pregnant? The best answer here would be the two days leading up to and including your ovulation date, and the two days immediately afterward. Mark off the first day of your menstrual period on the calendar each month, and after a few months you should start to see trends. Mathematically calculate how long you have between periods. Most people conform to a standard 28-day cycle, but that doesn’t mean yours can’t be slightly shorter or longer. Your luteal phase is represented by the time between your ovulation and your next period, and this should be approximately 12-14 days. By counting backward from the projected date of your next period, you can use this formula to determine when you’ll ovulate next.

Can you get pregnant when you are not ovulating? In short, no. This is why it’s important that you utilize your calendar to help become pregnant. You and your partner should be having intercourse as much as possible for the two days before, during, and after your date of ovulation. There’s no such thing as too much! And unless the male is known to have a lower sperm count, there’s nothing wrong with having sex every single day of that time period. “Saving up” isn’t necessary in most cases where your partner demonstrates a healthy ejaculate, as there are literally millions of sperm waiting to fertilize the egg after each time you copulate.

Women also often ask: will different sexual positions help me get pregnant? Yes and no. In most cases it’s not necessary, but if you want to increase chances of getting pregnant you should opt for deeper penetration during orgasm. This enables more sperm to reach the egg, and faster too. After sex, it’s been proven to increase fertility chances if the female were to lay on her back with her legs slightly raised up at about a 30-degree angle. Let gravity work with you for once, instead of against you. This keeps sperm inside you just that much longer, helping increase the chance that fertilization will occur.

Yet even if you don’t have intercourse every day, sperm can survive inside your womb for up to a day or two. This increases your number of fertile days to become pregnant by default, but your best chances will always be obtained by having sex on your date of ovulation. No matter how many getting pregnant days you’ve calculated, this one act alone will increase the likelihood of fertilization like nothing else can.

If after trying all this you find you still need help becoming pregnant, there are still a ton of other things you can do to help fertility.
